About David
Being no stranger to the art of writing great songs, DAVID OBRAY has penned all but one song he has released to date. Songwriting to David is a key part of being a successful recording artist as he believes strongly in the famous words, “It all starts with a song”.
From his early days of writing rock music in his high school band, David has evolved into a successful author of a variety of country songs. He is also a multi-talented musician, playing drums, guitar, and piano. He has a certain style and sound unlike anyone else.
David’s country career started with an audition for The Nashville Network’s TV show, “Charlie Daniels Talent Roundup”, he then went on to record his first independent album, “More Than A Kiss” having four singles released to radio and being an official showcase artist at Canadian Country Music Week. He then went on to perform a three-song demo for DreamWorks Records Nashville, shortly before Toby Keith left the label and the Nashville chapter was dissolved. David took a temporary step back from being an artist to raise his young family but continued songwriting which eventually led to recording his second indie album, “ Dust Your Boots Off” which saw one single released to radio. He then joined Nashville Publisher Merf Music Groups, where he has been songwriting and pitching songs to some of Nashville’s biggest stars.
David has shared the stage with many great country acts throughout the years and recently opened a concert for the rock band Loverboy, which was met with great enthusiasm from the sold-out crowd. David describes his music as, “Putting kick into country music”. He loves taking risks with edgy lyrics and great melodies. David produces his music with long-time and very talented friend, studio musician, producer, and engineer, John Thiel at Horizon Music. Together they bring a unique life to David's songs.
David has a loyal following and has been described by industry experts saying, “David displays a strong voice to self-penned songs, whose up-tempo tunes rock, and ballads evoke emotion” - Ed Harris (former VP of marketing for Universal) and “David’s music has definite commercial appeal” -Bryan Switzer (former VP and GM of Atlantic Records Nashville).
